HDR PROJECTS 3 ELEMENTS MANUAL PATCH

White Balance now has a small color patch showing the color that is being shifted to white.ĭenoising/Sharpness has a new adjustment for Color Noise. Readout of the RGB and HSL values for the pixel at the cursor, and a matching color patch, are now displayed just below the histogram. I’m not clear on when this would be useful.ĭefault alignment mode for bracketed images is now “exact” rather than “normal.” A bit slower computation. Six different scaling algorithms are available. You can choose to scale the incoming image from 25-400% (by area 50%-200% in each dimension). If you get odd color tints when you open a few of your images, check to see if this setting happens to be on. In my experience, on the rare occasion when it’s had any noticeable effect, it seems to have done more harm than good so I leave it off. If you want it, you’ll need to access it via the Extras menu, at least until you check the “Always show this window” box.īy default, a new “Normalise colour” feature in HDR Projects 2018 will attempt to remove any color tint by examining the coloration of deep shadows and bright highlights. This mostly-useless screen is now defaulted off. Using a separate Raw converter and transferring 16-bit TIFF is practical, but be aware that EXIF isn’t officially supported in 16-bit TIFF. Unfortunately, Raw has a big advantage over JPEG for HDR, so one probably needs to deal with it. Raw file processing is still quite slow and the conversion quality seems okay but doesn’t bowl me over. The list of cameras supported for Raw files has increased to 1020 (from 890). I have no idea what the limit is in HDR Projects 5. At 32 bits per channel for three channels, that would require over 8 GB. Maximum resolution is said to be increased to 714 megapixels (16- and 32-bit file formats only). That 18 stops is a range of shutter speeds from 1/4000 to 60 seconds 33 stops is ludicrous.

The prior limit of 55 at least had a reasonable numerical basis: at ⅓ stop intervals that was 18 stops, which combined with 14-bit Raw files gives the full 32-bit range that the program works in. 100 bracketed images at ⅓ stop intervals covers 33 stops. The amount of memory required would be enormous, and I don’t know what improvement you could possibly get. This seems to be a nonsense specification. You can now merge up to 100 bracketed images, up from 55. Batch Processing: Add the file extension to the batch processing file name automatically (default=on).Image Saving: Always save in highest resolution (default=off), Show crop window when saving (default=on).Always show additional information (default=on).

  • Reset the grain engine for new projects to the default settings (default=on).
  • The Calculation tab still has the non-functional Luminance Conversion section, but at least now it’s blank and you can’t actually enter anything into it. Oh, and the US English setting for the UI language still gives UK English. There’s still no attempt to redraw the preview image while moving a slider you have to release the slider to see the effect. The “RAW” process, which has nothing to do with Raw files, is still “destructive” when you hit the Apply button - you can only undo it by going back to a restore point or by reopening the file. Notably unchanged: there’s still no undo facility other than manually-created restore points. This resets the font size, window positions, etc. You can now reset the user interface appearance, from the Extras menu. The major new feature touted for Franzis HDR Projects 2018 is HDR Styles, but there are many other changes as well. Much of this likely also applies to the non-Pro version. Here I look at what’s different in HDR Projects 2018 Professional.

I did a fairly comprehensive (long-winded) review of Franzis HDR Projects 5 Professional at. Performance has not been improved, either. The user interface remains overwhelming for newcomers, and the absence of a basic “undo” continues to frustrate. But in the process, it breaks backwards compatibility with older versions even more than is usual for Franzis: the five HDR Styles don’t include any that give the same result produced by prior versions of HDR Projects. TL DR With the 2018 release of Franzis HDR Projects, the arguably most powerful parametric image editor on the planet gains even more power, with a choice of five HDR styles, computed masks for filters, and a number of other goodies.
